Firmino could switch clubs with Depay
Liverpool and Barcelona usher in a big deal? Firmino could switch clubs with Depay
Liverpool are currently linked with a move for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay, which could see Roberto Firmino go the other way. There have been rumours that the Reds will welcome a number of potential new midfielders throughout the summer window, but talk of forwards has been relatively quiet following the arrival of Darwin Nunes . However, reports from Spain suggest Depay could be on Liverpool’s radar.
According to Spanish news outlet Futbol Total, via Fanaticos, the Reds are “studying” the idea of a January swap deal for Depay. The report states that this will see a Reds player move in the opposite direction (no renewal, exchange), which will not involve a transfer fee. It has been suggested that the player could be Roberto Firmino and talks could intensify when the January window opens. That’s where Depay comes into play, as neither club is willing to lose a player for nothing, the report says.
Firmino ‘s contract is currently set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he can negotiate his future with any club outside England from January. The same is true for Barca player Depay, whose contract at Camp Nou will run until next summer.
With both clubs currently set to lose their respective players for nothing in less than 12 months, a swap deal is recommended, the report said. However, it has been claimed that “ideas are only on paper” at the moment and no concrete talks have been held.
