Fabrizio Romano drops Alphonso Davies news amid Real Madrid links

October 8, 2023

With the transitional phase well and truly underway at Real Madrid, the club are slowly gathering all the jigsaw pieces to build a team that will dominate for years to come. The midfield of the future is already set with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde.

The wingers of the future seem to be Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, but who will play in the middle of the two Brazilian internationals remains unclear. One other place on the team that may need some recruitment is the defence. Outside of Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao, the club’s best backline is still somewhat uncertain.

There has been one full-back in particular who has long been linked with Real Madrid. That is none other than Alphonso Davies.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Davies’ situation. His current deal with Bayern Munich runs until the summer of 2025.

As reported by Caught Offside, Romano wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing column:

“An interesting story could be emerging after quotes yesterday from the agent of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, who says there is a lot of interest in his client.

“Discussing Davies’ future, his representative Nick Huoseh said: ‘There is interest from many teams. I’m sure that Real Madrid could be one of the clubs that would like to sign Davies. There are several Premier League clubs too, they all want to have one of the best left-backs in the world. We’ll see what happens.’

“What I will say is that the crucial part here is Bayern. Bayern will offer Davies a new deal, but there have been a lot of changes in the board, new directors… they need clarity internally and then they will discuss new deal with Davies. That will be key moment to understand if he signs new contract.

“Or it may be that Davies decides he wants to try a new experience in the Premier League or La Liga in 2024. Nothing is decided yet, but he’s a top player so I’m not surprised his agent says there is a lot of interest in him.”

Davies is a player who has been linked with Real Madrid for a while now. The Canadian international has less than two years left on his contract at Bayern Munich, and it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants end up making an offer for him in the future or not.

A move for Davies could require a transfer fee somewhere around €70 million. But as his current deal runs down, that figure could slowly lower as well.

It is hard to see Real Madrid splashing out to sign Davies next summer, considering they need to bring in their striker of the future as well. They have been linked with players like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. For the time being, Joselu is doing a great job for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
