Everton In Talks to Sign ‘World-Class’ Man City Star, He Wants to Join

May 14, 2026

Everton are closing in on a deal to re-sign Man City star John Stones this summer, according to Sports Boom.

The Toffees were hoping to qualify for European football this season but have struggled for form recently, and now look more likely to miss out on a place, despite sitting just four points off seventh place with two games remaining of their campaign.

But David Moyes is still keen to strengthen the squad as much as he can for next season so they can continue their progress and go again, and now the club have turned their attention to getting some early deals done in the transfer window.

Stones, who has been described as ‘world-class’, has announced that he will leave Manchester City after ten years at the Etihad Stadium this summer when his contract expires, having fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola in this campaign.

The 31-year-old has suffered with injuries all season and now finds himself behind Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Abdukodir Khusanov, Nathan Ake, and the injured Josko Gvardiol, which has allowed him to make the decision to make a move away and look for a new challenge.

A number of clubs in the Premier League, including Newcastle United, Bournemouth, and newly-promoted Coventry City have made their interest known in the England international, but it’s Everton who have made the most progress in talks.

It’s understood that Stones sees a return to Merseyside as his preferred destination, as he believes that he can play regularly at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, while it makes for easy travel as he currently lives in Chester. He also has a great relationship with David Moyes, who originally signed him for Everton from Barnsley when he was a teenager.

Stones is viewed as the perfect blend of experience and current quality, and Moyes believes he can help mentor the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, while also providing competition for James Tarkowski and Michael Keane, who have both recently signed extensions despite being aged 33.
