Eintracht Frankfurt vs Darmstadt – 20/08/23

August 20, 2023

Looking to open the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign with an early statement on home soil, Eintracht Frankfurt will welcome Darmstadt to town on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, missing out on the chance to book another top-six finish last season, Eintracht Frankfurt will be desperate to make an early statement here. Extending on their DFP Pokal adventure earlier in the month as they stormed their way to a routine 3-0 romp away at Lokomotiv Leipzig, the former Europa League champions should be smelling a golden chance when they return to Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday afternoon. Although the Eagles might have suffered DFP Pokal final heartbreak at the hands of RB Leipzig back on June 3rd, Dino Toppmoller’s men certainly impressed many with their continued success on home soil last season. Signing off the 2022/23 campaign unbeaten in each of their last eight straight appearances in front of their own supporters, it should also be noted that Eintracht have not lost a single domestic showdown at Deutsche Bank Park throughout over the past 10 months.

As for the visitors, although Darmstadt might have shocked many as they clinched a Bundesliga return last season, it is no secret that Torsten Lieberknecht’s men are facing a real uphill battle this time around. Failing to pick up any kind of boost earlier in the month as they crashed out of the DFP Pokal thanks to a 3-0 drumming away at lower-league Homburg, the Blues also signed off the 2022/23 campaign in the midst of a worrying rut on the road. It should be noted that the Lillies lost five of their fival seven second-tier contests outside of Hesse. Knowing that they face a huge challenge when they travel to Frankfurt this weekend, Darmstadt should be worried by their moist recent meeting against Sunday’s hosts. Hit with an action-packed 4-2 loss when they travelled to Deutsche Bank Park back on February 4th, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
