Dutch champions Feyenoord eyeing move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips

July 5, 2023

Eredivisie champions Feyenoord are eyeing up a move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, who is looking for a move this summer to secure first team football.

The 26-year-old joined Liverpool’s academy from Bolton in 2016 and has made 29 appearances for the Reds since then, coming to prominence in the 2020/21 season when the club went through an injury crisis in defence.

Since then he has struggled for minutes under Jurgen Klopp and spent the 2021/22 season on loan in the Championship with Bournemouth.

His contract at Anfield still runs until 2025 but Liverpool are willing to let him go if a bid of around £10m comes in for him, reports The Athletic.

The same report states that Feyenoord are interested in making a bid for Phillips and they would be an attractive proposition having finished top of the Dutch top flight and qualifying for the coming Champions League group stages.

The Englishman has experience of European football after spending a loan spell in 2019/20 with Stuttgart in the 2.Bundesliga, and making five Champions League appearances for Liverpool.

There has been no formal bid or beginning of negotiations yet from Feyenoord for the centre-back, but a move could materialise in the coming days.

Phillips finds himself behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez in the pecking order in central defence under Klopp, so he could be allowed to leave without needing to be replaced.
