Dortmund Hope Bayern’s Sabitzer Can Help Fill The Bellingham Void

July 24, 2023

Borussia Dortmund is on the verge of signing Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer. According to a report by Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Dortmund will pay Bayern Munich €19 million ($21.1 million). The Austrian midfielder is expected to sign a long-term contract that will run until 2027. Both clubs hope to conclude a deal within the next 48 hours.

Sabitzer joins Bayern’s league rivals after spending the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Manchester United. Man United, in fact, was initially believed to make the deal permanent after Sabitzer started well for the Premier League side. But after scoring three goals and one assist across 18 competitions, Sabitzer suffered a meniscus injury in May, ending Sabitzer’s season prematurely.

Following that injury, Man United’s interest in the player seemed to cool. Sabitzer has since started the preseason with Bayern, but with the Munich side looking to restructure the midfield, the club looked to move on from the player this summer. Dortmund, in the meantime, was more than willing to meet Bayern’s asking price of around $20 million.
