David Wagner makes bold Norwich City claim as Blackburn Rovers victory boosts play-off chances

April 9, 2023

Norwich City moved to within one point of the Championship play-offs with a 2-0 win over sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers on Good Friday and manager David Wagner has praised his side’s victory

David Wagner believes Norwich City’s win vs Blackburn Rovers was one of their biggest wins this season.

Goals in each half from Liam Gibbs and Gabriel Sara saw the Canaries leave Ewood Park on Good Friday with a much needed three points, not only ending a winless run of four games but also gaining ground in the play-off race with them being one point behind Rovers in sixth place.

The win was severley dampened by what looks like a season-ending injury to Kenny McLean before the game as well as captain Grant Hanley stretchered off during the game – though his prognosis may not be as bad as first feared.

Speaking after the match, Wagner described the win as the biggest win of the season given what they had to endure before the match and over the course of the 90 minutes.

“I have told the boys in football when you have bad situations is when you can gel as a group,” he told Pink Un. “It gives you a bit of feeling, ‘Right, come on, let’s do it against all the odds when nobody believes in us and our qualities’.
