DANTE EXTENDS OGC NICE CONTRACT
Dante (40) has clarified his future, signing a one-year contract extension at OGC Nice, where he is now set to spend a ninth season.
The former Brazil international joined Nice from Wolfsburg back in 2016. Despite an ACL injury at the age of 37, Dante has bounced back and continues to be an integral part of Le Gym’s defence. Alongside Jean-Clair Todibo, he has formed part of the strongest defence in Ligue 1 last season, and one of the best defences in Europe’s top five leagues.
Whilst Dante will turn 41 in October, he continues to feature prominently. Last season, he featured 35 times for Le Gym, including playing in 32 of their 34 Ligue 1 fixtures. There had been doubts surrounding his future, which reportedly revolved around the financial aspects of the deal.
Dante will provide an element of stability in an evolving project at the Allianz Riviera. Sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has already left, whilst Francesco Farioli is also expected to join Ajax in the coming days. The club captain will, however, remain at Nice, at least until the end of the 2024/25 season.
