Christophe Galtier blasts PSG’s ‘complete slacking’ in Angers win

April 23, 2023

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has hit out at his side for once again allowing their performance to drop in the second half of Friday’s 2-1 win over Angers.

Two goals from Kylian Mbappe fired PSG into a 2-0 lead at the break but Galtier’s side were under immense pressure after the break, eventually conceding late on and being forced to defend for their lives to see out a 2-1 victory.

PSG ended the game with 66% possession and ten shots, but Angers managed 16 throughout the game and were left frustrated not to snatch at least a point from the league leaders.

Galtier was evidently unhappy and pointed to a similar trend in last week’s 3-1 win over Lens, which saw PSG score all three inside the first 40 minutes before being outplayed after the break.

“It was like against Lens last week, it was complete slacking,” he told Amazon Prime Video. “We just pushed the ball around without any rhythm or desire to put the game to bed.“

Galtier continued: “We are Paris Saint-Germain, we can’t afford to play only one half, and that’s what we did. There was not much in the second half.

“Even if some of our players have played 50 games this season, it’s still insufficient over the duration of a match.“

Despite being guilty of some underwhelming performances, PSG have opened up an 11-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, having played one game more than the three sides in the chasing pack: Marseille, Lens and Monaco.

Galtier appears set to secure the Ligue 1 title but faces an uncertain future at the club, having fallen well short in the Champions League in his debut season.
