Bruno Guimaraes left feeling ‘sad’ despite huge Newcastle United positive
Newcastle United fought back to claim a point against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon
Bruno Guimaraes has admitted to being “sad” after Newcastle United failed to claim all three points against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Luton at St James’ Park, a scoreline few could have predicted, as they were unable to build on the impressive midweek win claimed at Aston Villa.
Things could have been worse for Newcastle, too, having found themselves 4-2 down against the Hatters before rallying late on to earn a share of spoils. Kieran Trippier scored the third goal for Eddie Howe’s side, with Harvey Barnes rescuing a point shortly afterwards with a fine finish into the bottom left corner.
This match marked Barnes’ first appearance for the club since September, having missed the last few months due to a foot injury, and the former Leicester City star took only 10 minutes to score after being deployed from the bench by Howe.
The return of the 26-year-old will come as a major boost to the Magpies for the remaining months of the campaign and was celebrated by Guimaraes, who left a smiling face with love heart eyes emoji on an Instagram post shared by Barnes commenting on his comeback. Echoing this sentiment was Elliot Anderson, who added: “Great to see.”
Guimaraes provided his own reaction to the 4-4 draw on his personal Instagram profile and made clear he was frustrated at the final result, which saw Newcastle fall further adrift of the European places. “One of the craziest games I’ve ever been involved in! Sad that we didn’t get the 3 points. We have to stay together regardless of everything and we know we can do better,” said the Brazilian.
