Brentford insist Ivan Toney is not for sale

July 20, 2022

Brentford have no intention of selling star striker Ivan Toney this summer, 90min understands.

The 26-year-old managed to score 12 goals in 33 Premier League games last season as the Bees secured a 13th-placed finish, earning more points than fellow promoted sides Watford and Norwich City combined.

90min revealed back in April that Toney is happy in west London and would like to sign a new contract at Brentford, and it’s understood that Thomas Frank’s side will knock back approaches for him this summer.

Former club Newcastle have Toney on their shortlist of striker targets, while he has also tentatively been linked with moves to Leeds and Manchester United in recent days. However, Brentford have not yet been contacted regarding the forward.

The club have a mutual interest in opening contract talks with Toney but they are likely to commence later in the season, and tying him down to a new deal is not considered an immediate priority.

While the Bees lost Christian Eriksen to Man Utd on a free transfer, they have made two £20m signings already this summer, with Aaron Hickey signing from Bologna and long-term target Keane Lewis-Potter finally joining from Hull City.

Brentford also managed to beat Man Utd to the free signing of Albania goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha following his release from Lazio.
