Birmingham set asking price, Atalanta plans, player stance

January 10, 2024

Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James has been the subject of transfer interest in recent times

Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James has been a man in demand in recent days, with Italian giants Atalanta reportedly keen on bringing the Welsh international to Serie A.

It’s been reported by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato that the Bergamo-based club were on the verge of agreeing a deal for the 19-year-old last week, and it seems like James will depart St Andrew’s at some point this month.

The Birmingham man was the subject of Serie A interest last year, with Lecce and Bologna said to be keen to acquire his services

However, Atalanta look set to pounce for the Welsh international, who has seen his stock rise further this season thanks to his performances on the international stage with Wales.

Here is the latest Jordan James transfer news…

Birmingham City set €10 million asking price for Jordan JamesJordan James Birmingham City

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has reported via his X account that Birmingham City want €10million (£8.6m) for the 19-year-old if he’s to leave the club this month.

Galetti also reported that Atalanta have offered €5million (£4.3m) plus bonuses, but Birmingham want more for the talented youngster. Talks are continuing between the two parties, but Galetti states that the young Welshman is keen on a move to the side, who are currently sixth in the Serie A table.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham Mail have reported that Blues have already turned down three bids from the Italian side as they hold out for the €10million that they deem appropriate for a player of James’ potential.

The Welsh international is under contract at St Andrew’s until 2025, but with the club’s Profitability & Sustainability situation limiting what they can do, every player in the Birmingham squad will have their price.

Atalanta to make ‘decisive push’ this weekJordan James

Italian outlet Gazzetta Della Sport have reported that the Italian club will make a ‘decisive push’ this week to bring the Welshman to the club.

The 19-year-old played 32 minutes from the bench in the club’s FA Cup draw with Hull City on the weekend, and it remains to be seen whether that will be his final appearance for the club. It seems as if the Italian side want to get the deal done for James this week, but that’s dependent on meeting Birmingham’s eight-figure valuation for the player.

Bluenoses will be hoping that James sticks around, especially with a potential Euros campaign on the horizon with Wales. If they qualify, the midfielder will likely be involved in their matchday squads. Good performances there could potentially increase the player’s value and lead to Birmingham earning more money from a potential sale in the summer.

The club appointed Tony Mowbray as their new manager, and he’ll be keen to run the rule over James, but interim head coach Steve Spooner made it clear to the Birmingham Mail that nothing is agreed yet. He said: “He is a young man playing regular football, it’s good for his confidence as well to be linked with some great clubs.

“He’s gone, not past my advice now but he has a good family and they will give him good clear advice and he has his own advisors as well. That’s something for them to decide but more importantly it’s for the football club to decide as well.

“He is a young talent and he is going to get better. It’s that balance between keep or sell. He might be going to the Euros with Wales in summer and his stock value could go up.”
