Bellingham could be suspended for more than one game after red card vs Valencia

Jude Bellingham had an eventful return to the pitch against Valencia last night, as the midfielder was involved in all sorts of action.

During stoppage time – with the game poised at 2-2 – Bellingham’s glanced header found the bottom corner of the Valencia goal. Real Madrid players, including Bellingham, were assured they had won the game.

But moments before the ball even went in, referee Gil Manzano blew the whistle, meaning the goal did not stand. Real Madrid players were furious with the decision, none more so than Bellingham.

The Englishman vented out his anger and was promptly given a straight red card for dissent.

Bellingham’s could be suspended for multiple matches

In a recent report, Diario AS has highlighted that Bellingham’s red card against Valencia could see him suspended for more than one game.

In the minutes of the game, it was confirmed that Bellingham had exactly said to the referee. “After the end of the match and still on the field of play, he approached me with an aggressive attitude and shouted, repeating on several occasions “it’s a ‘f**king goal’,” the referee claimed.

Although Bellingham hurled no insults at the referee, his ‘aggressive attitude’ might land him in deeper trouble.

Bellingham certain to face a two-game suspension

The report adds that Bellingham’s red card against Valencia will bar him from playing the next two league matches against Celta Vigo and Osasuna.

As stated in article 127 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, “Protesting the main referee, assistants or fourth referee, as long as it does not constitute a more serious offense, will be punished with a suspension of two to three games or for a period of up to one month.” 

There is a possibility that Bellingham may face a three-match ban, but everything suggests it will only be a two-game suspension.

In any case, Real Madrid are ready to appeal against the decision, especially with the pretext of Bellingham not verbally abusing the referee.
