Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer reveals skin cancer surgery
Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, revealed on Wednesday that he had previously been treated for skin cancer and had to undergo surgery.
In a video launching a new skincare line with former top-ranked tennis player Angelique Kerber, Neuer said he has a scar near his nose and that “I had to be operated on three times, and I had skin cancer there.”
Neuer did not specify when the operations occurred. Last year, he was photographed with a plaster over the affected area.
He hasn’t played since Oct. 8 due to a shoulder injury, but Bayern has said he could play against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
The 113-cap goalkeeper helped Germany win the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and is expected to be part of the squad for this month’s tournament in Qatar.
