Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala reveals his biggest area for improvement is big game performances

August 4, 2025

Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala is hardly flying at the moment. Just before the crucial Champions League quarterfinal tie against Inter Milan, he picked up a serious hamstring injury that cruelly ruled him out for the rest of the season. Upon his return, however, he was almost immediately subject to a terrible, heart-wrenching injury that will keep him out for yet another long period of time.

Yet a lot is going right for Musiala, too. He just signed a contract extension at Bayern, which makes him one of the highest paid players at the club and now wears the No. 10 shirt for the Bavarian giants. He is one of the most crucial players for Germany, too, and was joint top scorer at the 2024 European Championship. He even achieved a childhood dream of being a cover star for EA Sports’ new FIFA game.

Musiala could easily be tempted to believe he is at the top of the world and that any potential problems are simply the fault of injuries. But, speaking to The Athletic, Musiala admits one area of improvement: “In big games, I still feel I can take an extra step forward.”

Sure, it’s not the most humble answer of listing every flaw he has but he has a point. At times, he has struggled to make an impact in the biggest of games for Bayern and it is an area where the club can expect its’ joint highest paid player to do a little better in. Unfortunately, such improvement will have to wait until Musiala recovers from his current injury setback.
