Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer loves playing goalkeeper

For nearly two decades, Manuel Neuer has redefined what it means to be a goalkeeper. While his incredible reflexes and shot-stopping have earned countless accolades, it is his comfort with the ball at his feet that truly revolutionized the position.

Reflecting on his love for the game, Neuer explained what makes playing in goal so rewarding.

”I truly love being a goalkeeper. I love making saves in the box, on my line. But it’s also always a pleasure for me to have the ball at my feet, to be involved in the build-up play, to be the instigator of an attack, to see a pass that can beat four or five opponents and create a scoring opportunity. Those comments perfectly capture why Neuer has been so influential throughout his career. He has never viewed himself as simply the last line of defense. Instead, he has embraced the role of being the first attacker, helping Bayern Munich and Germany control possession and launch dangerous moves from deep.
