Bayern Munich set contract deadline for Dayot Upamecano

After following a patient approach, Bayern Munich have now reportedly given Dayot Upamecano a deadline to accept the current contract offer.

Bayern Munich have prioritised contract renewals over new signings during the winter transfer window. The key priority for Bayern was extending the contract of Dayot Upamecano. The French defender has less than six months left on his current deal. He will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Earlier in January, Bayern were in advance talks with Upamecano. Real Madrid had dropped interest in the defender and Bayern were cautiously optimistic about closing the deal sooner rather than later.

Bayern reportedly had a framework agreed for a new long term deal with Upamecano. They have also reportedly agreed to insert a release clause in his contract. The only thing left is the final green light left from Upamecano to conclude the negotiations.

Die Roten are getting impatient since Upamecano is yet to give a final confirmation even though the club has agreed all demands of the defender. According to Bild, Bayern have now set a deadline of mid-February for Upamecano to make a decision. The Bavarian club needs a final decision so that they can accordingly plan their summer transfer window.

Upamecano has a great sporting project and quality coach at Bayern, who has managed to get the best out of him over the last 18 months. The Bavarian club is competing on all fronts, giving Upamecano best chance to add more silverware to his cabinet. The club hierarchy will hope Upamecano considers all these factors and make a decision sooner rather than later.
