Bayern Munich prodigy Paul Wanner wanted by loan club SV Elversberg

April 29, 2024

Will the Bavarians look to integrate Wanner into the first team side, or let him get match experience elsewhere?

Bayern Munich youth player Paul Wanner is enjoying a nice season on loan in the 2. Bundesliga playing for SV Elversberg. And it is a cooperation the club hopes can continue into next year, according to a report from Sport Bild.

Elversberg sporting director Ole Book is trying everything to keep Paul Wanner on loan at the club for another season. Bayern signaled weeks ago that they wanted to give Wanner another year of match practice at a high level. Elversberg are hoping Wanner’s rapid development this season and him playing in his favourite #10 position would convince Bayern and the player to stay. Wanner, still just 18, broke through the senior ranks in Bavaria last season but only with rare spot appearances off the bench. In Germany’s second division, however, the youngster who is being courted by both the German and Austrian men’s national teams has been a regular starter for a side sitting tenth in the table.

However, while Elversberg may want Wanner, Bayern may not be willing to play ball — if an appealing move to the German top flight opens up, for example. For Bayern and Wanner, it will be a juggle between the higher quality of competition and the chances for playing time.

Bayern’s attacking midfield ranks are crowded with the likes of Jamal Musiala and Thomas Müller — so wherever Wanner ends up, his development next season will be key. Can Wanner get himself ready to step into the Bayern first team again in a year’s time?
