Bayern Munich confirm Sacha Boey signing as shirt number revealed

January 28, 2024

Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey on a four-and-a-half year contract.

The German giants have been on the hunt for a new right-sided defender, with Newcastle star Kieran Trippier previously targeted before the deal was called off, and have revealed Boey will wear the number 23 shirt.

He told club media: “This is a dream come true for me. It’s an honour for me to get to play for such a big club like Bayern. I’m really looking forward to my new team and getting to play with all these great players in the future. As a player, I’m a defender who likes to attack, just as happy being involved up front as in defence.”

Boey becomes Bayern’s second signing of the January transfer window after they swooped for Tottenham defender Eric Dier.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund added: “Sacha Boey is a very quick and physically strong right-back, who covers a lot of ground in every game and doesn’t shy away from any tackles.

“He was a fan favourite at Galatasaray, has developed very well down the years, arrives with Champions League experience and won the league title with Galatasaray last season. He will increase our quality in defence.”

Noussair Mazraoui’s injury and departure for the Africa Cup of Nations has left Bayern short for options at right-back, with midfielder Konrad Laimer regularly needing to fill in.

On the other flank, Bayern have made an improved contract offer to Canada international Alphonso Davies as they attempt to beat away interest from Real Madrid.

The reigning Bundesliga champions are also keen to add to their roster in midfield, eyeing up Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi, while the future of Joshua Kimmich is also up in the air.

Thomas Tuchel’s side cut the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen to two points on Saturday with a 3-2 win at Augsburg. Xabi Alonso’s team could only draw with Borussia Monchengladbach against the backdrop of speculation around the Spaniard’s future following Jurgen Klopp’s dramatic exit at Liverpool.
