Bayern Munich confirm Mathys Tel signing
Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Matys Tel from Stade Rennes, with Hasan Salihamidzic describing the young striker as ‘one of the greatest talents in Europe’.
Tel broke into the Rennes side last season, becoming the club’s youngest ever player in August and going on to make 10 appearances in all competitions.
Although he is yet to score a senior goal, the 17-year-old has been prolific at youth level and has scored five goals in seven games for France Under 17s.
“Mathys Tel is one of the greatest talents in Europe, a very fast, technically strong and versatile striker,” Salihamidzic said, following confirmation of his arrival.
“With France’s U17s, he became European champion this year as the team’s captain. We’ve been watching him for a long time and have now been able to convince him to take his next important steps with us in Munich.
“We’re proud of that because there were a lot of clubs that wanted to sign him. The development of such an extraordinary young player is an exciting project for all of us.
“Of course Mathys needs time now, he needs commitment and rhythm. We are all convinced that he has a great career ahead of him and that he will help our team.”
Tel added: “FC Bayern is one of the best teams in the world. I’m really looking forward to this great challenge and will give everything for this club.
“The talks with Hasan Salihamidzic and those responsible at FC Bayern really impressed me and made me quickly realize that I absolutely wanted to go to Munich.”
