Bayern Munich 1-1 Frankfurt: Bundesliga Leaders Draw Third Match in a Row as Gap Narrows at Summit

January 29, 2023

Bayern Munich have drawn their third successive Bundesliga match as they continue to stumble at the top of the table. Leroy Sane fired them in front in the second half but they were pegged back thanks to a goal from France international Randal Kolo Muani. Bayern are now just one point ahead of Union Berlin.

Bayern Munich shared the points with Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena after a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening.

Bayern had to make do without Serge Gnabry in the starting line-up, after the midfielder was relegated to the bench due to his midweek appearance at Paris Fashion Week.

A win would have taken Julian Nagelsmann’s men three points clear of Union Berlin at the top of the table, and they went ahead on 34 minutes when Leroy Sane turned in Thomas Muller’s cross from the right wing.

In the second half, Bayern looked to be on top until Randal Kolo Muani levelled with a smart finish against Yann Sommer.

The result meant that Bayern are now a point clear at the top of the table from Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt are now closing in on the Champions League places, with just five points between the two clubs.

TALKING POINT – LEAGUE TITLE CHASE BLOWN OPEN

Bayern Munich are a point ahead of Union Berlin in the league table after 18 games, which suggest they are vulnerable to a second-half-of-the-season-challenge.

Going by the performance from Julian Nagelsmann’s men’s performance over the two halves it is worth wondering if the club have it in them to dominate the rest of the campaign.

A decisive signing in the next few days could make a huge difference.
