BAYER LEVERKUSEN STAR ADMITS HE WOULD BE OPEN TO FOLLOWING XABI ALONSO TO REAL MADRID

April 20, 2024

The latest comments on the part of Bayer Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo have turned heads across Spain this weekend.

As much comes after the gifted full-back hinted that he would not be opposed to the idea of linking up with Real Madrid down the line.

Grimaldo, for his part, is in the midst of nothing short of a remarkable campaign.

Amid Bayer Leverkusen’s record-breaking charge towards a historic treble, the 28-year-old, from his berth at left wing-back, has racked up a hefty 11 goals, and 16 assists.

Such production has given rise to inevitable speculation surrounding his future, amid alleged interest in Grimaldo’s services on the part of a whole host of top clubs across the continent.

Speaking in an interview with Esquire, as cited by Diario AS, this weekend, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of a potential BayArena exit was put to the Spanish international himself.

After first ruling out as much this coming summer, Grimaldo was then pushed on a specific landing spot, in the form of Real Madrid.

With head coach Xabi Alonso having been tipped to take up the reins at the Santiago Bernabéu upon Carlo Ancelotti’s departure, Bayer’s rampaging wide-man was asked if he would consider following his boss to Madrid.

And Grimaldo was altogether less dismissive of this prospect, in responding:

“We’d have to see at that moment (smiles). It’s true that I would like to work more with him, either at Bayer Leverkusen or somewhere else.”
