Barcelona’s Dani Olmo: ‘El Clásico is the best match in Europe’
He will be making his first appearance in an FC Barcelona-Real Madrid match
Dani Olmo will be participating in his first iteration of El Clásico in his senior career this weekend. The new FC Barcelona signing has played against Real Madrid as a member of RB Leipzig, but this will be the first time he does so for the Catalans.
Speaking in a television interview, Olmo said that “in a match like this, there are no favorites.”
Barcelona are currently three points ahead of Real Madrid going into the Santiago Bernabeu. It’s early, but the top-of-the-table clash is already being spoken about in terms of what it could mean for the title race.
A Real Madrid win would put them in pole position to win the league, at least for the time being. However, a victory for Olmo’s side would put them ahead with a very healthy six point lead.
“It is the best match that can be played in La Liga and in Europe. We can beat them with our ideas and we want to prove it.” Olmo said.
Olmo has a record of one win, one draw, and one loss against Real Madrid while playing for his previous club.
He has featured in three league matches for the Catalans after being signed away from Leipzig in the summer. Olmo is a product of FC Barcelona’s academy, and has long been linked with a move back to Catalonia. His heroics in Spain’s capture of the UEFA European Championship played a part in Barça willing to put up a large bid to make sure he would return home.
After missing out the past few weeks due to injury, Olmo reappeared in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over FC Bayern Munich.
