Barcelona looking to reinforce left-flank, veteran Serie A winger could be an option
Ángel Di María has been linked with a move to Barcelona for years, but the deal never went further than just rumors and never materialized.
The Argentine winger’s current contract with Juventus runs out at the end of the season, and despite already having a renewal proposal on the table he has not yet signed it, spreading uncertainty about his future.
Di María has enjoyed a rather successful season at Juventus after joining from Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent, scoring 8 goals and registering 7 assists in 35 appearances despite injuries plaguing his stint at the Turin outfit.
In the meantime, he played an essential role in the victorious World Cup campaign for Argentina, also scoring once in the final against France. However, he might be heading towards the exit door right away as Diario SPORT claim that the player is thinking about other options, Barcelona among others.
The Argentine had already offered himself to Blaugranes last season before leaving from PSG for free, but the Catalan club eventually ruled out his signing because there were considered to be other priorities at that time.
Now, Xavi and Barça want to bring in a pure, class winger to the left flank for next season, with Di María being one of the options.
However, the number one target remains Yannick Carrasco, and the club is expected to go for him if Abde, who currently plies his trade on loan at Osasuna, won’t stay at Camp Nou for the next campaign.
