Barcelona FINALLY register Gavi as a first-team player with LaLiga and give the midfielder the No 6 shirt with his contract including an £850m release clause
Barcelona have finally registered Gavi’s new contract with LaLiga.
The midfielder agreed a new deal until 2026 last September but he couldn’t be registered due to Barcelona’s financial problems.
Gavi had been given the No 6 shirt but he had to revert to wearing No 30 after a court ruled that Barcelona were late in submitting his registration to LaLiga.
The situation has now been resolved and Gavi can go back to wearing No 6, while his contract includes a release clause of £855million (€1billion).
Barcelona have also had their viability plan approved by LaLiga, which means that they will be able to register and sign players.
Gavi’s contract is reportedly worth £7.1million-per-year.
A hugely talented player, 18-year-old Gavi made 49 appearances for Barcelona last season.
The youngster has also been capped by Spain on 21 occasions.
Gavi had been linked with a move to Chelsea but Barcelona boss Xavi was eager to keep the prospect.
Speaking in April, Xavi said: ‘I don’t think Gavi would be happy at another club.
‘He has everything here. He is 18 years old. He’s a key player of our team.
‘For me, he’s a footballer that is outstanding.
‘I don’t know what he’ll decide but I think his future is here at the club,’ stated the Barcelona manager.
