Barcelona director spotted with Belgian talent’s father

May 20, 2024

Given their rather fragile economic state, FC Barcelona are not exactly in the best of positions. No longer able to pursue just about whoever they want in the market, La Blaugrana have had to resort to other measures. One such measure for Barcelona has been increasing their dependence on the youth players of tomorrow.

This has allowed the club to incorporate talent into the team, albeit still raw, and make considerable economic progress simultaneously. While these players are susceptible to mistakes that need correction through experience, they are talented footballers nonetheless and offer the team a real spark to compete.

The likes of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and others are just a few such names. These young superstars have become mainstays in the team thanks to their own strong performances this season, but heading into a new campaign, Barcelona have already begun to deploy some new cards and targets as well.

As highlighted by SPORT, Barcelona director Deco was recently photographed with the father of a talented Belgian wonderkid. In the picture, Deco was standing alongside Thierry Mokio, who just so happens to be the father of 16-year-old Belgian defender Jorthy Mokio.

Currently a player for Gent in Belgium, it would appear that the picture taken of Mokio‘s father and representatives standing alongside Deco could signal that a meeting may have taken place between the involved parties concerning the talented 16-year-old, someone who has been previously linked to Barcelona.

Similar to how they went with the operation of bringing talented defender Mikayil Faye to Barcelona, it would seem that the club wants to continue that trend of getting to young talents before other clubs with more financial muscle can make their respective moves.

Mokio, born in 2008, is still a year younger than the generation of Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, but is already making massive leaps within whichever teams he has played in. Despite still being 16, his impressive physical development allows him to compete with even the most experienced of players, and his understanding of the game continues to grow as well.
