Barcelona determine midfield trident vs PSG

April 10, 2024

According to journalist Javi Miguel, Andreas Christensen is reportedly feeling positive after training sessions.

It seems likely that Christensen, along with Ilkay Gundogan and Frenkie de Jong, will form the midfield trio for the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg match against Paris Saint Germain.

It is to be noted that de Jong, alongside Pedri, has travelled to Paris without a medical clearance from the team.

As for Christensen, who has been struggling with with an Achilles problem, has not played for the team since featuring for 61 minutes against Napoli in the second leg of the UCL round of 16.

Everyone looks fine
It is said that Christensen has recovered from the discomfort he experienced during the warm-up at the Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid and will join the team in Paris.

De Jong, on the other hand, has also recovered from the sprain in his right ankle’s external lateral ligament, which had been bothering him since March 3; however, he awaits medical clearance.

Similarly, Pedri’s status remains uncertain following a collision against Athletic Club, resulting in an ailment in his right thigh’s rectus femoris.

Despite this, he has also travelled with the team without medical clearance. Additionally, Xavi has to deal with the absence of Alejandro Balde and Gavi due to injury, although Gavi will still accompany the team to Paris.

“All those who have travelled, except for surprises, will be available,” said Xavi before the match.

For now, Xavi is optimistic about having De Jong back on the field, despite his injury being less severe than Pedri’s muscular issue as the Dutchman has been participating in regular training sessions with the team this week.

As for Christensen, his transition to a defensive midfielder has bolstered Barcelona’s defence, but there are concerns about his discomfort as well.

Nevertheless, recent training sessions have indicated that the duo will be fine and are fit to feature right from the start.
