Barcelona attacking target closing in on a move to RB Leipzig
Barcelona’s search for a new number continues and as time passes by, it appears the club are slowly thinking about alternatives to top target Julian Alvarez.
One of those alternatives has been Fisnik Asllani of Hoffenheim, who enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 10 goals while mustering nine assists.
Asllani is reportedly keen on playing for Barcelona, but the Catalan club continue to prioritise a move for Alvarez.
Asllani closing in on Leipzig move
Barcelona’s indecision in the Asllani pursuit has now opened the door for RB Leipzig to snap him up this summer.
According to BILD, Leipzig are on the verge of signing the Kosovar forward, who will not be joining the Hoffenheim training camp as part of the preparations for the new season.
It is clear that Asllani is leaving Hoffenheim this summer and RB Leipzig is the likely destination, though the deal is not finalised yet.
The German giants still need to trigger the striker’s €30 million release clause, upon which he will be free to join Leipzig and become a part of the team heading into the new season.
The report does mention Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund as interested parties in the young forward, but RB Leipzig are the best-placed team right now.
A glimmber of hope for Barcelona
But as mentioned earlier, the deal is not done and it appears Leipzig are hesitating in meeting Asllani’s release clause.
That is because Leipzig are already stacked in the goalscoring department, boasting the services of Conrad Harder, Romulo and 17-year-old Samba Konate.
If Leipzig are to trigger the release clause, they must get rid of at least one of these three players. Until, the club have their hands tied.
This could be an opportunity for Barcelona to make a move, especially knowing that Asllani would be keen on a move to Camp Nou.
But for now, the Catalans are expected to remain put and wait for Alvarez while trying to keep hold of Ferran Torres, who continues to be on PSG’s radar.
