Anthony Martial’s worrying reaction as Erik ten Hag offered transfer solution
Manchester United picked up three points with a narrow win over Bournemouth as they close on a return to the Champions League with more reinforcements needed this summer
Manchester United closed in on Champions League qualification with a win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Red Devils have been hugely inconsistent in recent weeks, but picked up the three points on the south coast which keeps Liverpool at bay. Erik ten Hag’s side have been absent from Europe’s top table this term and, as they take strides forward, plans are being made for their return.
United will need to bolster their options if they are to compete in the Champions League next term, with more firepower a must going forward. Doubt continues regarding the future of Anthony Martial, who failed to fire against Bournemouth, as the team’s shortcomings in the final third continue to be an issue.
Martial looked far from impressed when his number was called on 58 minutes against Bournemouth this Saturday.
The France international shook his head in apparent disbelief before walking straight down the tunnel to the dressing room as Wout Weghorst came on to replace him on the hour mark at the Vitality Stadium.
It’s not clear whether Martial was carrying an injury or if Ten Hag made the decision for tactical reasons, but either way, Martial will be disappointed he was unable to make the most of his opportunity this weekend in place of the Rashford.
