Another Tottenham deal close, with Spurs to agree Bundesliga loan with buy option attached

September 1, 2023

The Tottenham defensive exodus is poised to collect a new name after varying reports shed light on Japhet Tanganga’s looming exit to Germany.

Spurs have already axed a pair of underused defensive stars this window, with right-back Djed Spence and centre-half Joe Rodon both joining Leeds on loan.

Eric Dier is another who’s been linked with leaving, as has Davinson Sanchez. Left-back Sergio Reguilon is also expected to depart Spurs’ defensive ranks after Tottenham granted the Spaniard persmission to travel to Manchester for a medical.

A loan exit is on the cards as Erik ten Hag pushes to sign cover for injured pair Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

In any case, today’s update regards yet another outbound defender on Tottenham’s books – Japhet Tanganga.

The 24-year-old is way down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou and had drawn links with Lyon, Torino and even Everton.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, it’s a loan switch to Bundesliga outfit Augsburg that awaits.

The transfer guru tweeted Tanganga is “close to joining Augsburg” on a season-long loan that will also contain an option to buy.

Shedding light on what number the clause will be set at, journalist Luca Bendoni cited the round figure of €10m (approx. £8.6m).

Bendoni added Tanganga has already “given the greenlight” to Augsburg whose move is advancing and “very concrete”.
