Amad injury update emerges as Manchester United star recovers ‘in record time’ ahead of Athletic Club clash

Manchester United are seeking Europa League success and Ruben Amorim has been handed a huge boost ahead of facing Athletic Club.
We are now more than a week removed from Manchester United’s dramatic win over Lyon.
Ruben Amorim’s side pulled off a stunning late comeback, scoring three times in quick succession to turn a potential 4-2 defeat into a remarkable 5-4 win.
United’s 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers has taken the shine off that victory, and Amorim will hope for a response against Bournemouth this weekend.
Next Thursday, United head to Bilbao for the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals, and Amorim has been given a timely boost.
Amad’s Manchester United injury boost
Reports in February suggested that Amad would miss the rest of the season through injury.
The Ivorian suffered ankle ligament damage in training and was expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.
Amorim commented on Amad’s situation earlier in April, suggesting that he would not be ready to return this month, but maybe before the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano now claims that Amad is set to return to United training next week.
Romano states that Amad has recovered from his injury ‘in record time’ and he will be back in full training within just a few days.
We aren’t expecting Amad to be back in the starting XI against Athletic Club next week, but his return opens up the opportunity to be on the bench either in the first leg or the second leg at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have missed Amad
You can certainly make a case that Amad was emerging as the main success story of the early Amorim era.
Amad raced away to set up the first goal under Amorim, teeing up Marcus Rashford to score at Ipswich Town.
By the time Amad picked up his injury, he had racked up five assists and six goals in 20 games under Amorm.
The 22-year-old had become a reliable threat in the final third, and few will forget Amad terrorising Manchester City in December.
United have lacked ball-carriers in the final third, with Amorim admitting that he couldn’t take Alejandro Garnacho off earlier against Lyon as he was the only threat in transition.
Amad’s return offers a huge boost in that regard, but Amorim will likely ease him back in as United chase Europa League glory.
