Raphinha fires warning to Real Madrid ahead of El Clasico
Barcelona winger Raphinha has admitted he is feeling nervous ahead of his first La Liga Clasico against Real Madrid, but insists it is Los Blancos who have to be ‘careful’ in this one.
Despite struggling in the Champions League, Barça have done well domestically, winning seven consecutive league games since opening the season with a 0-0 draw back in August.
That run of form, which has included five successive wins in which they scored at least three goals, has put the Catalans top of the table ahead of Real – both teams have the same number of points, but Barça’s superior goal difference is the tiebreaking factor for now.
“I’m a little anxious about the Clasico, but I’m fine with my head,” Raphinha said, via Marca.
“We’re leaders. I’m not saying fear, but if anyone has to be a little careful, it’s them. We’re confident and we’re going to do everything possible to win.”
Technically, it is not actually the first Clasico that Raphinha has played in. The €60m Brazilian was involved and even scored the only goal when the fierce rivals met in a pre-season friendly in Las Vegas during the summer.
Victory for Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Sunday would be a huge statement, especially in the wake of more European disappointment that has left them facing early Champions League elimination for the second season in a row.
