Guardiola hails ‘exceptional’ Erling Haaland after winning Player of the Month award

September 17, 2022

Pep Guardiola has hailed Erling Haaland as an ‘exceptional’ player and a ‘perfect person’ after the forward won the Premier League Player of the Month award.

Haaland enjoyed a fantastic start of life in England in August, scoring a record-breaking nine goals in his first five games in the Premier League.

Speaking to the press ahead of Man City’s clash with Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Guardiola was full of praise for his star striker, stating: “He’s exceptional, said it many times. At the age that he has, his ambition, he wants to better.

“He’s a perfect person to manage, nice guy, the quality he has he can continue to do what he’s done. We didn’t add much.”

Guardiola also gave an injury update on Aymeric Laporte and Kyle Walker, and a preview of what to expect from this weekend’s game.

“Aymeric [Laporte] is back in training but is not ready. Kyle [Walker] is getting better but I am not sure if tomorrow he will be ready. We will see in training this afternoon this afternoon,” he added.

“[Wolves are a] completely different team to different seasons. They used to play five at the back now with Coady now with four. I’m really impressed with how they play, unpredictable.

“They have a lot, a lot of really good things. Centre-backs, attack out-side, inside, a lot of talent with Neves, Guedes, Moutinho, all of them. They are competitors. One of the toughest opponents we have faced in last season and tomorrow will be no exception. We have to be prepared. We have to mentally prepare.”
