Jordi Alba reacts to Inter rumours & lack of minutes under Xavi

September 10, 2022

Jordi Alba has made it clear that he’s not happy with Barcelona for trying to sell him to Inter at the end of the summer transfer window.

In the last few days of the window, it was reported that Barcelona were looking to strike a deal to send Alba, who has not started any of the club’s last three La Liga games, to Inter on a permanent basis.

The move ultimately never went through, but the full-back is not best pleased with Barca’s efforts to offload him, and how they went about trying to do so.

“I can only tell you that my thought has always been to be at Barcelona. I see myself qualified to be here, otherwise I would be the first to leave,” he said at an Adidas event.

“Then the club will look at their interests. I have always shown my commitment to the club, to the coaches… I will never get into the issues of club interests, I can’t tell you more. I’d like to tell you more, but I’m not going to.

“It’s not about whether it seems fair to me or not, the situation is what it is. Everyone acts as they want and, in that sense, I can tell you how I act. I always like to go head-on. Some don’t like it, but I’m like that.

“I think you can always do things better but in football, after everything I’ve seen, I’m not surprised by anything anymore.”

For the first time in years, Alba is no longer Barcelona’s first choice left-back thus far this season with Xavi preferring Alejandro Balde, and with Marcos Alonso joining, playing time is only going to get harder to come by.

“I don’t have to vindicate myself, I’ve been here for many years and I try to do what’s best for the team,” he added.

“I have never complained if I don’t play and I hope I can play a lot. I will work and try to help young people.”
