Clinical Nerazzurri return to winning ways

August 31, 2022

Inter bounced back from a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Lazio by securing a victory of the same scoreline against Cremonese on Tuesday.

Joaquin Correa kicked things off early on before Nicolo Barella stole the show with a sensational volley and an assist for Lautaro Martinez to wrap up a comfortable victory.

Cremonese were brave but perhaps to a fault as Inter consistently pounced on the counter, starting with Correa’s opener. Federico Dimarco stopped a corner and sent Barella free. The midfielder found Edin Dzeko, whose strike was parried right into the path of Correa.

The visitors chose to keep attacking and came close through Cyriel Dessers and Charles Pickel, but it was another counter which led to Inter’s second.

Barella started the move, which later involved Denzel Dumfries and Hakan Calhanoglu, the latter of whom floated a ball to the edge of the box which was met sweetly by Barella. He drilled his strike into the back of the Cremonese net, ending any hopes of a comeback.

To Cremonese’s credit, they still tried their luck. Dessers saw another chance go missing and Luca Zanimacchia drew a goal-line clearance from Milan Skriniar.

But yet again, it was an Inter counter that made the difference. Martinez collected a pass from Barella and showed some nice strength to hold off a defender and slot home.

David Okereke bagged a deserved consolation goal late on with a glorious curling strike that will make the highlight package worth watching right until the end, but the damage was already done at that point and Inter ran out comfortable winners when all was said and done.
