Cristiano Ronaldo cautioned by police for smashing fan’s phone

August 17, 2022

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been cautioned by Merseyside Police after he was found to have smashed a young fan’s phone following a defeat to Everton in April.

The striker played 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park, after which video footage appeared to show Ronaldo slapping a phone out of a 14-year-old boy’s hand – making contact with the teenager in the process.

Ronaldo apologised to the fan afterwards and attempted to invite them to Old Trafford, interviewed by police under caution in relation to alleged assault and criminal damage.

Merseyside Police have now confirmed that Ronaldo has been cautioned over the incident.

“We can confirm that a 37-year-old man voluntarily attended and was interviewed under caution in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage,” a statement read.

“The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison Park on Saturday 9 April.

“The matter has been dealt with by way of conditional caution. The matter has now concluded.”

Ronaldo is also understood to have paid compensation to the fan in question.
