Rio Ferdinand makes bittersweet admission about Marcus Rashford as new ‘normal’ set at Barcelona

April 7, 2026

Marcus Rashford is enjoying his football at Barcelona, and it has prompted Rio Ferdinand to make a bittersweet admission.

The future of Marcus Rashford will only be settled at the end of the season, because Barcelona are intent on dragging this game of poker.

In the meantime, Rashford is leaving no stone unturned in proving his worth to the Catalan club, recently scoring in a marquee game against Atletico.

All of these rapid developments have prompted a bittersweet admission from Rio Ferdinand, who says Rashford has set a new ‘normal’ in Spain.

Marcus Rashford’s ‘new normal’ at Barcelona
Rashford’s goal against Atletico even had Hansi Flick raving about him, without giving away any hints on where his future lies.

He has touched double figures for both goals and assists this season, making Barcelona’s decision to strong-arm United even more confusing.

Rio Ferdinand agreed on his YouTube channel recently, saying that Rashford has achieved such high levels that even his goal against Atletico prompts just a shrug, because that’s just what he does normally.

He said: “Absolutely [have him back at Man Utd]. That’s what Marcus Rashford has made us feel is the norm with him because he’s that good [goal against Atletico]

“We just hadn’t seen it for a while at Manchester United, and there are obviously reasons behind that. Forget that now that that page has turned. 100% I’ll have him back.”

Rashford fee is an ‘absolute robbery’
Even though Ferdinand supports the idea of having Rashford back at Old Trafford, he recognises that it might not be what the player wants.

It led to a bittersweet admission from him, where he said that he hopes Rashford gets the Barcelona move he desires, but the fee will be an absolute robbery.

He said: “But I think that the ship has sailed [of returning to Man Utd] and I think Marcus Rashford is looking forward. I think deep down he’ll want to go to Barcelona, and I just hope that actually materialises for him.

“If Barcelona get him for the reported £26m, and they get that version of Rashford, it’s an absolute robbery. It’s an absolute steal.”

Apparently, Barcelona don’t think so, which just enhanced United’s bargaining power, because Rashford has played like a player whose value is far more than £26m.

If Barcelona don’t want to pay it, someone else will, and United might even get more than that in the end.
