‘Golden opportunity’ to sign Leeds United player – ‘Having nightmare’ with Daniel Farke
RC Strasbourg have set their sights on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to Jeunes Footeux.
Mike Penders is currently the first choice at the Ligue 1 side. He joined them on loan from Chelsea, without any purchase option or obligation.
After this season, Penders will leave the French club, and they will have to find another stopper. This is where the Leeds United player comes into the picture.
It’s claimed Meslier is ‘having a nightmare’ at Leeds United as he’s been ‘frozen out’ at Elland Road.
The 25-year-old was the No.1 for the Whites over the years until the end of last season. Daniel Farke has favoured summer signing Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow ahead of him this season.
Meslier hasn’t made an appearance so far and is in his final year of contract. He can start negotiations and sign a pre-contract with other clubs from January.
This is a ‘golden opportunity’ for Strasbourg. The outlet, who say it’s their own update, warn them of the fierce competition.
Two months ago, Inter Milan’s interest while recent claims in Italy have covered AC Milan interest. On October 30th, we covered claims from Belgium about Anderlecht and Club Brugge making contact to sign Meslier in January.
Jeunes Footeux now state Strasbourg feel they have an advantage as they can offer him a starting role and an attractive project. They are looking at the stopper for next summer. This will only work out if another club doesn’t swoop in for him in the winter market.
Meslier’s future is likely to be away from Leeds United, and his agent is clearly at work.
