Ryan Gravenberch Misses Training Due to Anke Injury

October 21, 2025

It seems likely Liverpool’s key midfielder will miss Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Entracht Frankfurt.

It’s been a tough few weeks for Liverpool on the pitch, with the Reds losing four games on the trot around the October international break including three in the Premier League. More concerning perhaps than the four losses is the fact that even when they were winning before then they looked far from their best.

Their next challenge—or their next chance to get their season back on track, depending on how you want to come at it—is Wednesday in the Champions League when they travel to Germany to take on Eintracht Frankfurt. However, it appears likely they will have to do that without key midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

Gravenberch was unable to rejoin his teammates in training today after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield to historic rivals Manchester United, and with fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister also struggling for form and fitness this season it sets up a potential conundrum for manager Arne Slot.

If Mac Allister is fully ready to go he could attempt to put him in a double-pivot alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, but if not it would mean having to start the Hungarian at the base of midfield alongside either Curtis Jones or Wataru Endo, neither of whom have seen significant action so far in the 2025-25 season.
