VfB sporting director adamant Nick Woltemade won’t join Bayern Munich this summer

Now that Bayern Munich has finally agreed on a deal to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool for a fee that will wind up costing around 75-million euros, the German Rekordmeister can shift their efforts back to VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade. After having their first two bids swiftly and promptly rejected by the Swabians, Bayern had decided to temporarily table their pursuit of Woltemade, but with the Diaz deal now done, there’s added impetus to try to re-engage with the DFB-Pokal champions.

As things stand, Bayern wants Woltemade and Woltemade wants Bayern. There’s only one, rather big, problem that’s standing in the way; Stuttgart does not want to entertain any offers from Bayern that are anything less than 100 million euros. Mind you, this is certainly a talented young German striker, but he is only currently valued at 30 million euros. Stuttgart’s valuation of their frontman is a testament to their resiliency to wanting to let him go, especially after having lost Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund.

Per information from Sky Germany, Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has doubled down on his stance that Woltemade will be a Stuttgart player next season and will not be joining Bayern. “There’s no news. Nick will very likely be part of our squad again this season. We’ve communicated that clearly and unequivocally. It’s our responsibility to focus on what will help us get a good start to the new season. That’s why we’re only thinking about the relevant topics. A transfer of Nick under the current circumstances is simply not relevant,” he bluntly stated.

This is something he has already said to the press before, but his statements alone will not cause Bayern to just walk away altogether. There’s a lot that can be done and Bayern often times recruits in Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß to assist in transfer matters. It’s a well known fact that Hoeneß was involved in discussions with Florian Wirtz’s father before the player ultimately decided to join Liverpool instead after conversations with Arne Slot.

When Wohlgemuth was asked about potential communications with either Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl or Hoeneß, he took the chance to comically deny any connection. “I’ve received many invitations, but not from my colleagues. I wouldn’t even know where they live,” he scoffed.

Lip service from Wohlgemuth or not, Bayern still faces an uphill battle to try to convince Stuttgart to let Woltemade go. It will be all about finding the sweet spot in the valuation difference between both clubs combined with his current contract at Stuttgart that runs through June 2028.
