Jamal Musiala calls for “even more hunger” next season as Bayern Munich look to defend their Bundesliga title

July 25, 2025

Having confirmed their status at the top of German football again, it is the expectation at Bayern that the club stays there.

Losing the 11-year Bundesliga title streak hurt Bayern Munich a lot. It had rather become the expectation that Bayern would run away with the league, so to finish around 20 points behind Bayer Leverkusen, who become the toast of Europe, was extremely embarrassing. Sitting down with The Athletic, Bayern star Jamal Musiala discussed the emotions after losing the title and the consequences of regaining it last season:

“[Losing the title to Leverkusen] was hard. As soon as I broke through at Bayern, in and around all these great players, I realised what was needed to play for the club and what was expected of you. So that (disappointment) gave us that extra push we needed last season.

We knew we needed to do a lot more to get back on the stage, lifting the trophy. That’s what we did. And now we are champions again, we will have to play with even more hunger next season. Because that feeling of lifting the trophy is something we want again.”
