Rumour Mongering: Bayern Munich Make Luis Diaz Approach

July 2, 2025

After being linked with a move for Cody Gakpo earlier in the summer, it’s hard to tell if Bayern are really interested or just still annoyed about missing on Florian Wirtz.

More than any other Liverpool player this summer, perhaps, it feels nobody quite knows what to make of Luis Diaz and the occasional transfer rumour rumblings surrounding him. With other players, for the most part whether they might stay or go seems clear.

With Diaz, there’s been talk of a new Liverpool contract and of him being in the club’s long-term plans. And there’s also been talk of there not being a new contract and him not being in the club’s long-term plans.

There was brief but seemingly serious talk of Saudi Pro League interest that, after a few weeks, became clear would amount to nothing. Then there was talk of supposedly serious Barcelona interest. It also now seems almost certain to lead to nothing with the Catalans focused on Nico Williams.

Now, Germany’s SportBild claim that Bayern Munich have made an approach to Diaz to gauge his interest and that with the player open to a move they are now very seriously considering a move for the 28-year-old Colombian international left winger.

Further muddying waters, last month there was chatter out of Germany linking Bayern with another Liverpool winger, Cody Gakpo. That chatter, it quickly became clear, was baseless and seemed as much as anything to be Bayern’s petulant reaction to losing out on signing Florian Wirtz after he chose Liverpool.

It’s difficult to imagine the biggest club in Germany would spend their summer trying to unsettle Liverpool stars because they missed on Wirtz, but having appeared to have done so once already you can’t be sure it’s not more of the same.

Given the amount of turnover at Liverpool this summer—and with the likes of Darwin Nuñez and Federico Chiesa seemingly certain to depart while most would put money on Harvey Elliott and at least one of last season’s left backs also leaving—one might imagine the club wouldn’t be in a rush to sell Diaz, too.

It will be interesting to see, then, if the Diaz to Bayern chatter intensifies over the next week or two—or if it goes the way of seemingly every other Diaz story so far this summer and quickly fades away to be forgotten and immediately replaced by a new one.
