Bruno Fernandes has already discussed ‘competitive’ PSG transfer with Man Utd

June 6, 2025

Manchester United reportedly have a keen eye on Paris Saint-Germain’s striker Goncalo Ramos, and the Red Devils’ captain Bruno Fernandes has backed him as a top hit for Old Trafford.

The club’s on the hunt to bounce back after enduring their worst ever season in Premier League history. United faced a serious goal drought last term, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee knocking in a measly seven league goals combined.

They have already bagged Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and they are speaking with Brentford to snag Bryan Mbeumo too. United could also swoop in for Ramos after losing out on Liam Delap.

Ramos spent much of his time coming off the bench at PSG this season, while Ousmane Dembele has been crafting his role up front under Luis Enrique.

Word is that PSG think Ramos is extra baggage but he has caught the eye of United’s as he ‘appeals to United’s hierarchy’ since he’s only 23 and ripe for English football. His Portugal mate Fernandes reckons Ramos has what it takes to thrive in the Prem.

“Goncalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League,” quipped Fernandes last year. “He is very intense, presses very well and is very good in the area. Physically he is strong, he is still young and will get better.”

“If you continue to work as you have done, I think you have the potential to be one of the best spearheads in the world, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league to demonstrate it. Here the best always work, be it Goncalo or another player.

“I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say in the Premier League I also say Manchester United, but it’s not in my hands yet to be a sports director. When I am, I will make these decisions.”

Fernandes has committed his future to United after turning down a mega-money move to the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal were ready to break the bank with a £100m bid to United and offered Fernandes a whopping £700,000-a-week contract for three years, reports the Mirror.

Yet the stalwart chose to stay at United following heart-to-heart discussions with his loved ones. “I spoke with my family to understand if that was what I wanted for my future,” Fernandes shared openly.

His wife played a pivotal role in this career-defining moment – rather than giving a straight answer, she insightfully weighed his professional life first.

“It was actually my wife who asked me – I never said yes or no. She put my professional priorities ahead of everything else. It would have been an easy move. I had Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo there, two people I have a great friendship with.”

But Fernandes’ ambition to remain at the pinnacle of football drove him to refuse the offer: “But I want to stay at the highest level, play in big competitions, because I still feel capable. I want to keep being happy, I’m still very passionate about this sport, and I’m happy with my decision.”
