Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1 – 3 AC Milan; 2024 UEFA Champions League
Yet another poor performance from a disappointing Real Madrid team.
Full match player ratings below:
Andriy Lunin—6.5: Not to blame for the loss—made 6 saves, 4 from inside the box.
Lucas Vazquez—2: Nightmare performance. Leao had his way against Vazquez, with AC Milan constantly targeting the right-back. It was man against boy, and Lucas looked out of his depth.
Antonio Rudiger—4: Far too aggressive in his defending and could have prevented the third goal with a more conservative approach.
Eder Militao—3: Failed to win his aerial duel on the opening set piece conceded. Overly aggressive on the third goal, stepping out and ruining the back four’s shape.
Ferland Mendy—3.5: Struggled against Pulisic—had 0 tackles, 0 clearances, 0 interceptions. A non-factor.
Tchouameni—2: Awful performance—poor giveaway in the lead-up to the second goal conceded and, to compound mistakes, failed to track Morata.
Valverde—3: Only lasted 45 minutes and brought nothing to the game. Why does Ancelotti persist with Valverde on the wing?
Luka Modric—6: Was not the problem, but at 39 years old, he should not be the solution either.
Bellingham—6.5: Ran tirelessly, doing the work of a forward and a midfielder. Made the runs in behind Milan’s defense that Mbappe failed to make, then worked back to cover gaps defensively. Visibly frustrated when substituted.
Vinicius Junior—6.5: Earned and scored the penalty—Madrid’s lone goal. Contributed with 5 key passes and put in the work defensively to try and press.
Kylian Mbappe—5: A better performance from a statistical standpoint, but the eye test suggests the Frenchman is still lacking confidence and has failed to be impactful as a #9.
Substitutions:
Eduardo Camavinga—5: Played the entirety of the second half but could not turn the tide of the match.
Brahim—3: Failed to make any material impact on the match.
Dani Ceballos—4: Another substitution that failed to bring any change to a broken Real Madrid team.
Rodrygo—N/A: Late substitution with the game already lost at 3-1.
Fran Garcia—N/A: Late substitution with the game already lost at 3-1.
