Nuri Sahin hails win over RB Leipzig as Borussia Dortmund’s best performance of the season

November 3, 2024

Nuri Sahin was delighted with the way Borussia Dortmund performed in their 2-1 win over RB Leipzig, and hailed it as his team’s best performance of the season.

Borussia Dortmund issued the perfect response and snapped their three-game losing streak in style by getting the better of RB Leipzig on Saturday evening. The Black and Yellows came from behind to claim the three points, with goals from Maximilian Beier and Serhou Guirassy securing the win after Benjamin Sesko had given RB Leipzig the lead.

The result came as a much-needed boost for Nuri Sahin. The pressure had been mounting on the 36 year old, with some fans and analysts criticising his tactics and in-game decision making. Sahin felt that the performance against RB Leipzig was Borussia Dortmund’s best of the season so far.

In an interview with Sky Sport after the game, Sahin hailed his side’s performance, saying, “That was our best game of the season over 90 minutes. We had phases and periods in Madrid where we did well. The decisive factor was that the players put it into practice from the very first minute.”

Nuri Sahin unfazed by criticism
The Borussia Dortmund head coach also spoke about the criticism him and his players have had to encounter, and was delighted to issue a response on Saturday evening. “I understand the criticism. I absolutely understand it. I accept any criticism that’s about football.”

“When I signed the contract with Borussia Dortmund, I knew that I would be in the spotlight and criticised as a coach. Conversely, you also get a lot of praise after a win like this. I’m happy with the path we’re on.”

Borussia Dortmund have won all their games so far this season at home, and will hope to keep that run going on Tuesday when they face Austrian side Sturm Graz in the UEFA Champions League.
