Reds linked to midfield prodigy who guided Spain to 2024 Olympics gold

October 21, 2024

Liverpool endured a difficult summer transfer window that saw Arne Slot not making any notable signings except Chiesa, and the Dutch head coach would be keen to lay his footprint on the squad at Kirkby. And looking to get a marginal advantage over the rivals, the chiefs at Merseyside Reds have already started laying plans for the 2025 transfer intervals.

The Premier League heavyweights have been looking to make some bold signings and ensure an influx of young talents in the side as they look to build a strong core for the long term. And they have been looking at Atletico Madrid’s 21-year-old Spanish midfielder Pablo Barrios, per Fichajes.

Atletico Madrid’s asking price for Barrios could be a Hurdle for Reds

There is no doubt that Arne Slot needs to add more depth and quality in the middle of the park, and in Barrios they are looking at a prospect who will not only bring offensive creativity but also bring defensive cover and composure to the heart of the pitch.

Pablo Barrios is a highly regarded talent in all of Europe, and Atletico Madrid are said to reciprocate their asking price with his quality, as Los Rojiblancos are expected to demand around €50 million to part ways with the 2002-born prodigy.

Barrios enjoyed a strong outing in the 2024 Paris Olympics with Spain as he impressed his nation with a gold medal showcasing his physical and technical attributes that could come handy in the English top tier. And while his current employers won’t want to part ways with the highly rated midfielder, it is to be seen how Liverpool can push for a move in the 2025 windows.
