Former Manchester United coach Steve McClaren honoured before FC Twente match

Former Manchester United coach and FC Twente manager, Steve McClaren, was honoured before the Europa League tie at Old Trafford.
The night was a disappointing one as the home side could only muster up a flat 1-1 draw with their Eredivisie opponents.
McClaren, who left United earlier this summer to become Jamaica’s national team’s manager, has had an important part to play in both clubs’ history.
He joined Sir Alex Ferguson’s coaching team in 1999 and won the treble within his first six months. United won the league title in every year he was with the team until he left in 2001.
He went on to manage FC Twente in 2008 and his side were crowned champions in 2010. He left the club that year but had a second spell with them in 2012-2013.
McClaren then joined United’s coaching team once again in 2022 when Erik ten Hag was appointed manager at Old Trafford.
Man United’s official website reported that “former Manchester United coach and FC Twente manager Steve McClaren was celebrated ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League match at Old Trafford.”
“The 63-year-old was recognised for his contribution to both clubs, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Twente’s Wout Brame presenting him with an engraved silver plate at pitchside.”
Brame was one of McClaren’s players during Twente’s title winning season under the Englishman.
It is also interesting to note that Ten Hag was a coach under McClaren at Twente in the preceding season to their title win.
The Englishman has won and drawn his first two matches as manager of the Jamaican national team.
They will next be in action away to Nicaragua next month in the Concacaf Nations League.
