Chelsea scramble to offload five unwanted players into dwindling transfer markets yet to close

September 4, 2024

Chelsea are scrambling to offload more unwanted players to countries where the transfer window is still open, as they bid to end the summer with a net zero transfer spend.
The Blues yesterday sold 19-year-old Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for around £19million and they still want to find takers for Ben Chilwell, David Datro Fofana, Harvey Vale, Alex Matos and Deivid Washington.

The Saudi window is also now shut but clubs in Turkey, Greece and Belgium can still register players.

Chelsea made a £6m profit on Gabriel, a player they paid £13m for from Santos last summer but who never made a competitive appearance for them.

Following his exit, Chelsea have made around £189m in player sales this summer and are close to balancing the books after spending around £208m on new signings.

Chelsea would like to sell Chilwell but sending him out on loan appears more likely, with Turkey his best hope of getting a move between now and January after being frozen out by Enzo Maresca.

Chilwell has been told he will not play for Maresca and faces months in the wilderness after failing to secure a move during the English transfer window.
