Liverpool transfer news as Federico Chiesa closer and Champions League winner tracked

August 28, 2024

Liverpool transfer news as a deal for Federico Chiesa appears to be drawing closer, and a left-back with a Champions League winner’s medal is monitored.

Liverpool has completed its first transfer business of the summer, securing a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, the Valencia goalkeeper will not arrive at Anfield until next year — and the Reds might be closing in on some more immediate deals ahead of the Friday deadline.

It has been a winning start to the season for Arne Slot in the Premier League. But there’s a feeling that tougher tests lie ahead, and the squad could do with some reinforcements ahead of a campaign where it will be competing in an expanded Champions League format.

Federico Chiesa is the surprise name to have seemingly shot to the top of Liverpool’s list. There’s progress on that front.

Meanwhile, a new left-back is being tracked too, one who (technically) has a Champions League medal to his name. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Federico Chiesa (Juventus)
A move to bring Chiesa to Liverpool appears to be on. Fabrizio Romano reports that the Reds are now “confident” of striking a deal.

Chiesa gave Liverpool the green light to plough ahead with a move on Monday, when he expressed his enthusiasm for the transfer. Talks are now underway between all parties, with no other side yet to table a formal proposal to Juventus.

The Serie A side has been looking for a way of selling Chiesa, who is into the last year of his contract and on high wages. It remains to be seen how Liverpool navigates personal terms, although with the 26-year-old keen on the move, there are no signs of any problems yet.
