Juventus’ asking price for Federico Chiesa continues to tumble

August 6, 2024

It’s not a matter of if Federico Chiesa will be sold this summer, it most definitely is a matter of when Juventus will pull the trigger on a deal over the next 3 1⁄2 weeks while the summer transfer window is still open.

That is the only option now considering what Juve manager Thiago Motta said after his team’s draw with Brest in their second friendly of the summer. And now the only two questions on everybody’s minds are: Where will Chiesa go and how much can Juventus get for him?

According to multiple reports out of Italy over the last 24 hours, the answer to the second question is far from something that would be encouraging. While we wait to have a clearer picture of the first question and where Chiesa will call home in a few weeks time, TuttoJuve’s Mirko Di Natale says that the €25-€30 million Juventus were hopign to potentially fetch for Chiesa earlier this summer is now very much not possible. It’s such a down market for the 26-year-old Italian winger that, according to Di Natale, Chiesa’s market price is now much closer to €15 million than previous figures that have been floated out by the Italian media over the last two months.

The €15 million figure is important *yet quite depressing in some ways) because it essentially serves as the mark to where Juventus won’t suffer a loss on the books when Chiesa is sold.

As of right now, there seems to be three potential domestic options where Chiesa could possibly go. Roma, who were thought to be out of the equation after signing Matias Soulé, have reportedly never stopped talking with Chiesa’s agent, Fali Ramadani, according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio on Monday evening. Following Motta’s comments, Chiesa was linked with a move to both Inter and Napoli, with Beppe Marotta thinking of potentially swooping in for another one of his trademark low-cost moves for a talented player. (Which, considering the tactical setup that Inter manager Simone Inzaghi uses and Chiesa’s reported dislike for Max Allegri’s 3-5-2 setup of the last two years, that would be a questionable and puzzling kind of move.)

Ramadani has also reportedly been in England in recent days to discuss the possibility of a move to the Premier League with representatives from both Chelsea and Tottenham.

As far as we know, there still hasn’t been any sort of official bids submitted for Chiesa — which, considering we’re now in the first full week of August, says something about the current state of his market. It’s safe to say that both Chiesa’s agent as well as Juventus wanted to see Chiesa have a big showing at the Euros to drive up the interest and the price. But, just about the opposite of that happened, and now we’re left to wonder just how small of a fee Juve will get for a player that they paid well over €50 million to Fiorentina for when it was all said and done.
